GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan Secretary Oh Tong Keong has given Pulau Tikus elected representative Yap Soo Huey a 24-hour ultimatum to clarify the land conversion status of a heritage Siamese-Burmese village.

Calling Yap from DAP, a “rookie representative”, Oh said that if she fails to come clean about the truth, “…we will reveal all about her misrepresentations” on the issue.

In a statement to FMT, Oh said, “Being a dignified professional, Yap will be given 24 hours to clarify the conversion of the land use issue in this traditional Siamese village.”

Last week, Yap demanded that Gerakan explain why the village land was converted from a religious – cultural zone to a commercial zone in 1996 while under the Barisan Nasional administration.

In responding to Yap, Oh said, “You are dishonest.”

Oh added, “Yap failed to give a full and satisfactory answer on the matter.

“Apparently, she has learnt from her boss, Penang chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng how to avoid responsibility when facing problems,” lambasted Oh.

He also claimed that Gerakan had obtained certain important information to prove that Yap was not being honest.

Early this year, the village community was told their land had been sold so a mega hotel could be built on the site.
