KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang Umno representative Mohd Shahar Abdullah captured the attention of many, especially young delegates, at the party’s general assembly when he delved into the affordable housing issue.
“Affordable houses should not only look good in advertisements, but must also have a price that is truly affordable for young buyers.
If they can’t afford to buy those houses, then it should be renamed as unattainable housing project,” he said when debating the motion on economy.
Mohd Shahar also lauded the proposal for the government to create a savings scheme for housing just like the Tabung Haji’s saving scheme for the haj pilgrimage.
He said the scheme should be specifically formulated for young workers and professionals to enable them to own a house as early as possible.
“These young people dream to own a house. If we don’t give them the chance and create a mechanism to help them, they can never afford to achieve that dream,” he said.
