KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has gently reminded his Selangor counterpart, Azmin Ali, not to fall into the trap of being another Khalid Ibrahim.
Khalid, Azmin’s predecessor, was ousted on disciplinary grounds after he allegedly brought the PKR into public disrepute.
Lim was speaking at a DAP Serdang function where Azmin was listed as a guest but was unable to make it, according to a report in MalaysiaGazette.
It was reportedly Azmin’s absence that prompted Lim to wisecrack that the Selangor Menteri Besar should not keep changing his mind like his predecessor. “If he did that, we would not hesitate to criticize him the same way we tore into Khalid,” chuckled Lim in trying to inject humour into his speech.
“In other words, if Azmin becomes Khalid No. 2, we would go on the attack.”
Switching from Azmin’s absence to a more serious matter, Lim said Azmin needed a friendly reminder on the allocation of posts in the Selangor administration. He said DAP’s “objective of four exco posts was not met”.
“We wanted the Deputy Speaker’s post but it was given to PAS although we were the first party to congratulate Azmin on his appointment as Menteri Besar.”
He said that DAP in Selangor could be compensated with positions in local government but so far this has not been done.
